Big Show gets BIGGER!!

If you would have told me on January 2nd, 2005 when Sportsradio 1250 WSSP hit the air waves for the first time that we would be doing what we are doing today I would have laughed at you. I remember the first couple of years wondering if we would all have jobs the next day. Heck, I never would have guessed in a million years that Bill Michaels would be doing mid-days on 1250. Let’s take that a step further - I never would have guessed we would be local from 6am to 6pm. In this radio business that I choose to do for a living, very few talk stations around the country can afford to do local programming for that long.
That brings us to what’s been happening with the Wendy’s Big Show. We lose Josh Vernier to our sister station in Kansas City, which at the time had me heartbroken. Have no fear, though - Ramie is here! He’s done a remarkable job taking over the lead host position and will continue to be better and better each day. To think that I get to work every day with a former Packers and Badgers running back in Gary Ellerson, is truly a very cool thing. Then to think that we are privileged to have a Packers Hall of Famer (and should be NFL Hall of Famer) in Leroy Butler who comes in from time to time each week to bring a different and unique perspective as he guest co-host’s the show. On top of all that, now we have gone out and lured in Bucks play-by-play guy Ted Davis to hang out with us a couple of days each week through the Bucks season to offer up his vast array of knowledge to our listeners as he will also be a weekly guest co-host.
I’ve been fortunate enough to work with people that understand that my emotional ups and downs on the air are never meant to be taken too personally. While in the heat of the moment, I could say just about anything and am truly amazed I’ve avoided swearing tirades on the air. I only hope now that Ted Davis is as understanding as everybody else has been before him. I know I look forward to working with him and learning from him.
