Green Bay, WI - The Packers may have released two defensive players Tuesday, including cornerback LaDarius Gunter, and defensive end Ricky Jean Francois.

The team confirmed Gunter has been released. He was an undrafted player who made the roster in 2015, then became a starter last season after Sam Shields went down with a severe concussion Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Gunter had a poor start to training camp this summer, unable to keep up with most of the Packers receivers in practice.

According to a report by ESPN, Francois has been released, however his name is not on the NFL waiver wire. Francois, 30, was signed by the Packers after he was released by the Washington Redskins. He also played for the San Francisco 49ers. Francois, who requested his Packers jersey be changed to number "99" last week, played on only six snaps in Green Bay's 17 - 9 win over the Seattle Seahawks at Lambeau Field Sunday.

The Bengals releasing former Packers defensive tackle Christian Ringo created speculation he could be returning to Green Bay.

The moves allow the Packers to return wide receiver Geronimo Allison to the active roster. Allison served a one-game NFL suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy following an arrest for speeding, and possession of marijuana, driving on I-43 in Wisconsin while returning to Green Bay last fall.
