How would you start when you were niners started when I was fourteen holes I was close was nice yeah yeah words you go to high school. I want to mosquito high school who OK you know what I've got a bunch miscue guys come in and after you. Oh really yeah these are building a new waffle ball field yes. The warrior guys walk in right after you. Ben public you were you from. Originally from long were you go to high school refer asking you did here general I. And I don't know my nieces nephews names but I know stuff like that that is magistrate has ridiculous do they have a gymnastics program there. Now now they don't high schools around here bill you know the only fine high school programs sounds awfully. So how'd you get involved in that. One of those kids that climbed in jumped off. In the pants and that's probably do something a little safer yeah. Mary have you. I started at this China's and I honestly very. You debt yes we're gonna talk about that because I was an eye on your website today and and them I didn't know. All the things that you guys offered I mean all from open gyms two birthday party stick there's a lot of stuff going on. We have an adult class that your welcomed on. And if it and coaches. That's scary we left that hook. You can you imagine be. Very athletic and a pickup. The well compared to my brother John and the athletic when my older Brothers pretty athletic as well. But I just can't says I appreciate the offer this idea and I'd throw like total laughter after the October but this is it just assembled right guys that's that's added that. I have three grandsons that would be perfect. And I didn't eat six and room for three. I always listen and shape and I think it's a 63 I delivery price streak from may seem every day back to ask the eight year old I see Keegan. Do you ever do you see the word pig in Salem the so in my house. Has it come over any dollar for an US and I know this like spirit grocery store I get free food we get to watch cartoons for confront me so he. Let's Stacy how long you've been part of Swiss turner. I'm 25 years so true. When you first started there were you competing these I don't know what I was a college Europe coach. And you came in as a coach. You coach they have Brothers yeah. The issue that huge these guys were incredible anyway how proud of the state Wisconsin we're so proud of these fast oh absolutely nice guys. Oh yeah great guys you coach them for how long. About thirteen years really all through the Olympics at all odd. I could some fund almost the start. When they're on six up through on somewhere passcode 2002 world championships in. And then me I'm still a bit different training mentioning going into the last on the 2004 Olympics. Is that normal in that camp that that once you get to that level you made. You need do you do you normally like encoded to it to somebody else or to changer too deep sometimes stay with the same people. Yeah its it's own sometimes people do and sometimes people don't depending what they think they need. In all that on but it was guy we had that we had a great relationship there are incredibly successful with me and Paul. In 2003 it was became the first. American male gymnast to ever win the world all around champ title and only one ever and sitting in the Olympics he won the Olympics is. Gymnast is I I have been a basketball coach for 36 years so I understand that the team concept of coaching. Players the definition of team is Warner more horses pulling as soon Dresser for common goal I understand that gymnastics is one of those sports kind of like wrestling. Works individual sport but it's a team sport. And an end net that in trust speak because there's some competition. With in the teams yet you're part of a team on as as an athlete in that. In that sport. Was it more teen sport for you or was it more individuals. Work it was more the individual sport but I think purchasing college it was definitely. Emphasize his being a team sport. And when you get Saddam opera national team levels on and as the Winter Olympics they and that team has emphasized. Everything yeah Iowa State you're cyclone right you have to set or that's not so we are I had in studio in fact the or date came from Swiss Turner's. Two here's short keep in your view them for this this show on there at the tumbling these big that people were in for the world's. Charlene crowd waited. Purchased at bats on me. Yeah for us and they're really talent and I saw them doing their teens and we have artistic gymnastics spoke mead. Don't. And tell us about since it was just insane it's a different silent gymnastics. At the championships were here so they had aided. They did dot com. Rhythmic trampoline. And act grow. My my how they gave me some tickets send my crank his because they might my so what put a tramp clean up in their backyard. Ticked you know have them do some things in the back here just have fun with it. And for the people that came in I interviewed for. Or three of the five said it started with my dad put a trampoline in my backyard. And I started watching and trying to do this and do that. And I found that interest in some my daughter took them down there and was blown away. We look you've got to be a phenomenal athlete I think Soviet gymnast. You know people talk about it was a basketball player you gotta be really good athlete erupt on four. As a football player but you watch what you've done you guys have done as generous. I think EG you have to be an unbelievable athletes to accomplish the goals. That that you have certainly CC right. We yeah I you know I just want to it and just that I like to be. To reach the top let's have a upon you have to have like everything you have to have group incredible physical talents mental talent. I'm incredible work that they can drive. But you can be a great gender it's like I collect. I need I got two national team out right and all that but and I would say I was is a little above average talent but it really hard worker. So. And so gymnastics. There's a lot to do weighs in gymnastics to get to where you want a golf. Because of the way the rules are you could if you're not good at a certain area you can emphasize enough that area. Because it is it uses all these different muscles unlike some sports I mean there's not a muscle in the body that gymnastics and use. You train so hard. And now it's it's CE individual fault and this is this is or routine to it where it would pick one. And this is yet and it all for referred you know for all this time you've been training. Is that evercore through your mind when you're getting ready like. That I need to hit perfect to this time. Because this is debt or to do is you're training just overtake those thoughts and you just go do what you've been doing now for. Six months or whatever well let's with the chains posted June you know occasionally. It's it's. Is probably the personalities. Some people. Our basic I would column gamers are just they really turn on the shelf for that prefer let's. But also we UK each you can train people. Vaughn if if they've done really good training. You can help them through that moment that they're able to really focus on the moments of what they prepare themselves for what they did in the gym. He bent when when I'm Helen he coached. Starwood r.s fourteen so over Tony okay you enjoyed coaching side of it up loved working with kids and Jeep when you have a kid. Mom who's who's dedicated and and and and is there a lot in practice and hard. I'll keep you know. If that this kid is gonna be pretty successful I'm me June or early on absolutely easy is happening no fear. Part of it yes it is right yeah I mean that's. That's one of the biggest. Kind of struggles that the coaches. Getting through that with a young child or young boy or girl is that that fear. You know so part of our jobs as coaches and sometimes I feel like a child psychologist. But yeah I bet trying to get through those and ate it. The great thing about gymnastics is that. Learning to conquer those fears. Really helps you throughout life. And knows. You know conquering those kind of obstacles yet be very same question so when you win you have how old indicates that you coach. My youngest is 30 my oldest is fifteen. It dipped fifteen year old and when you get into that age are they is is that purse competing at the high school level are they doing. I travel I. But they're due lean at that aids is the excel on teens so it's one of the US AG. I'm pleased that girls can compete and so my fifteen year olds might team is. The youngest of six my oldest is fifteen on that team okay so it's a huge age difference in between make kids. You have to treated differently so if the six year old is afraid of something and I need to treat it a lot different than if the fifteen year old is but. Overall it's. Like the mental part of gymnastics I think is way more. Impressive than a physical. Our you look I don't know much in and so have you guys are here. I am I if you wanna talk for four hours about high school football undercut high school basketball no worries high school baseball maybe three hours. And the reason we started this you sports show is I hit I kept getting phone calls and emails of people asking me. He what do you think about this or how did that youthful both team have all this money and all these players and we Kincaid. You know we we have to do cookie sales and stuff like that and messy don't you guys ever talk nearly Knoll. And so I'm trying to put people together to save what they do it this way it's not a secret. But that as we started doing the use force or thought I don't know much about you swimming I don't know anything about youth gymnastics. So they're trying to stretch. You know my comfort zone a little bit and and and highly promote and celebrate sum this up that you guys do what and when you talked about the mental side that Mary that's. When I watched gymnastics that's what I think of but the mental side of being able to do it at that moment when you have to I think Lloyd might be a little bit too difficult for. On a lot of athletes that I've worked well. Oh that's exactly what we're training people to be able to deal. In its Islam a self confidence. Thing what's. All sport health but frantically gymnastics because. Is like you're talking about your out there you raise your hand is just use right. And you have to be able to control your minds what doesn't go off in some crazy direction and you forget what you doing. I'm or you panic. And so we we train people to be confident and to stay focused and on it's great it's a great benefit for it. Last question for you to break was it easier for you to compete. Or to coach he's an end and that can answer this for you but I had acts players come coach. And they think it's much more difficult as a coach teach. You're a silenced those guys are playing he said I'm booked to play never got nervous plan. And then it became a coach had in I don't know if that's the same in all sports easier for you tell it to compete or to coach. Coach. Easier yeah yeah I mean I I did I was a good competitor but. Coaching was more my natural thing. Excellent we're gonna get to break. We're gonna start talking a little bit more about Swiss Turner's and in some of the things. Not only the facility which is great as some of the things that they offer already talked to them of open about. Holly gets you don't volunteers and coaches and and debit fees and and we did the whole time that we're doing this if you wanna go to their website Swiss Turner's gymnastics dot com. They're located over on south 416 street in west Dallas. Their phone numbers 4143214343214340. I'm joined in studio for the entire hour. Stacy Maloney thank Jake ghost and Mary mush on. For the entire. I'd sports Radio One 057 FM the fan. And weeks. Weird. News. Oh yeah actually car fleet use sports show honest portrait of 1057 after the fan I might figure Vernon I'm ticked. To Stacy Maloney 59 he looks like he's 35. I've never felt told her remarkable life get out of the stupid get your coat pocket certainly cured I no longer welcome here and stick his super baloney from. Swiss Turner's gymnastics academy that's we're talking youth. Gymnastics and it's. I didn't realize how many cool things were also joined coaches spend Jacobs and Merriman Shaun our in studio go to Swiss Turner's gymnastics that come. Swiss chairs and that's been around long time. 11413. 113 years yet. And when did you guys move out west Dallas. They were there when I came there in 1992 there are buried there I I've not had captured by the facility and need to stop that. And and see and I looked at. At some of the got pictures sum this up on the website looks like a really cool. Facility. Where did you train there is that re started yes it is and and you'd hold reunion started I was three when I started my first preschool class there. And and you continued. Yes for did you compete. You'd socialist charge you guys have your own teams cracked yes and you work is there a different level teams how does that work. There aren't very different level teens so the way that it works you can do the recreational programs you can do. Junior. Junior Olympic programs or you can to the excel programs for girls okay and excel is that the the elite I know excel is. The team that I coach and that is. It's somewhat less of a time commitment OK. And it's is just a really fun ways for your girls to get become competitive gymnastics and also be able to do other sports. And focus on some other stuff yet. It's less hours less money exactly it'll simpler. Bet if you have a lot of a multi sport athletes eighties debt that come to a Swiss turner yeah. That's the really cool thing about gymnastics is it. Beacon. Held view in any sport this racial awareness body awareness that you get from doing gymnastics can help you in any sports I have several athletes that. You know I'm not happy about it that's right they do a few other sports. Because. Eight comes natural to them because they have the background of gymnastics. You know that is ten to twelve every Saturday here do a high school. Sports show and they'd be coaches all they all stand up say no no I loved multi sport athletes. And they record or break and their like Ahmed I want Mike a teaches the course of my guys sustain about sports is stated footballer or baseball. Sees when you win you were in high school. On if you were gonna get some level you've got to did you have to just pick gymnastics and that was York. Sport. If I had to just picked sixth because I was sole small like football is not. Realistic in basketball I tried it that was pretty good lets you know it's like it's as it was hard yeah for gymnastics was a sport that. Basically I could I could work as much as I wanted and I can determine my outcome. And sized isn't. You know it depends if you're small and that's battery gymnastics the UK yeah it can be cracked it can of people that we had in the toddler's. The girl who was thirteen or fourteen years old. Was so little and in fact they had like a handler I guess somebody who brought them. And I said do you have to. You have to be clue pay close attention to eating disorders. And she said you're talking about an answer yes and she goes she's always been real little but we'd certainly pay attention that have conversations with kids about it. It's certainly something in our sport that we pay more attention to that and other sports. She said but he you know what she's always been real little and that's what makes her good. Add to at what she does. When somebody car can somebody be part of what you do. On Stacy and not be on the team. Jill Carroll. Absolutely I mean the majority of the kids at a club they just come and take class once a week they do yet appearances wanna get them in something they can do gymnastics is a good. Like basic foundation for other sports and and it really emphasizes. Mom if it really emphasizes discipline and helps develop confidence self. A lot of people into most start to kids often that some of the kids who re like it'll keep going in class some of rats off towards what the teen programs. I'm so it's a good beginning days how. How do you how do you decide when somebody comes and does that let's just use his seven year old. Boy that that has some interest and maybe does have interest but his mom wants him to be involved in south and Brees goes gymnastics. Do you start with a certain part is there's so many sub sections of what you can participate in in gymnastics right from. Either for exercise it'll probably into rebel. But going to be an intro class like a boys let's say if it is employed beep if they were six or seven years old eagle and two boys Lama won. Generally which is is soon set they've never done gymnastics before and then they can. Move up as fast as they need to learn the skills on but that should look at we haven't you all the effects. Yet he admitted Ben do you arm when kids come do you find that there's one area that they tend to wanna get more involved and then did than others. Yeah especially with young boys they wanted to trampling all the time they do yeah. Yes I can see my grand sense just wanted to do that now I can't what part do they dislike the most do you think at that age. Pummel horse yeah without one event it's. Pummel horse for men's gymnastics is one that even for myself as a competitive gymnastics. I always sought as all of the events out of the six are all vertical movement mania this one event where it's kind of horizontal. And now it's an adult class that I'm joining you can make me do that one area is your shirt I'll have. Left yeah hey I would struggle and now once that's a tough. That when I was struggling. Mary is it the same for girls that they needed is for the trampoline when they get their. Yes they love trampoline they love. The fun parts. As all all young kids. Right and and that part of once they get a little older do you find in in I find this in other sports. When they get a little bit older and they start looking at the people next to home. Or the people that are competing that might be a little bit better that their competitive juices start to say hold on a second you know what how come. I I joined the same time he did or she did if she's able to do this I need to get the up will open if our views you're this year S. That's eight competitive. Definitely compete with each other within. There recreational classes within the teens say they motivate each other did you pattern to improve. Yeah I think that's really important when you guys you guys travel these huge travel quite a bit throughout the United States that competitive teams to beat duke yet armed. How are how is Swiss Turner's looked upon on the national level. Well for the boys program where what do you think the best voice programs. Oh really yeah yes so everywhere illegal immigrants today know who's westerners. That's pretty cool yeah I. I bet surprises mean I'm a sports guy should know that. Yeah I Xiaobo because we deduce. Paula Morgan Hoffman as a scores of national team members and national champions and junior national team members so we've been incredibly successful boys and girls program now is since really kick in putt. They're like. One of the best programs in the state in the region that got national champions now so. It's just getting batter batter on both sides hey we gotta get to a break but what you Stacey what is your. Your knee you'll receive the coaches to our U coach could you run the facility right. Yes sir your your your at a facility manager plus young the draft and operations and what I do now I don't have it I don't have a specific group that I coached more as I. I go I oversee the teen programs and I go around and help different kids and coaches and giving suggestions that. I'll stop disease at a child struggle on the skill getting some tips and help a little bad and could offer you kind of a consultants. You know. Good for you like to eat and eat it what I love is that you're willing to think continued to give back. And you go to our life right if I walk through gem and it's Z you don't find that it's not my team but there's a kid that struggled in the south that. I may pull aside and say look make sure that you get square of the Basque bigger picture almost hear stuff like that. And like the fact that you wounded keep given I like it like. I. I never intended to get coats and actually look like working with kids a lot and down I enjoy helping them. Too busy as it then the manager of silly measure be able to take a team now there's a lot corn on man I'm looking that your schedule. There's a lot going on it's your facility and we yet it's seven days that gyms open seven days a week. You know when I called look and feel that that first time it was called great when you guys open like media and so connected to cell number as I want and it. And the gross that I don't think he's up disease he works late I don't think he was up and I since giving. Oh your best viewed as you call we've knocked on noon or so so yeah I'd I've figured that it's out with everything you've got going on your awfully busy guys it's good to break. Other separate review continue to talk Swiss Turner's gymnastics academy go to Swiss Turner's gymnastics that. For more information they're located twenty to fourteen south a 116 street. Hours today eighty M 8 PM four and over 4143214340. Fortune 14340. I would highly recommend. They're taking there's still people who register for fall classes fall session 2017. If you go to Swiss Turner's gymnastics the outcome. You can sign your kids or fewer and it felt like me. Trust me that'll be nice cheese snack gonna make you do that horse thing promised you yeah why you went in like that if the waves are currently use sports show. I'd sports Radio One 057 app on the fan. And business. Years it. It's. I'll walk back to place for a few sports show on sports treaty 1057 F from the fans. I might figuring joined by some people from the Swiss Turner's gymnastics academy. Stacy Maloney spent shake ups and merry emotional. But this was Turner's gymnast who stuck up for more information. Who went when you have registration open like you do now for your fall session. Do you find that a lot of the people and then serve a few by the people. Our our repeat customers people that bring their kids back through each session absolutely I think that says a lot right. Yes dad I mean that's a big part of our jobs is to you know retain and keep people in rolling and keep them in the system. My job as. One of those boys team coaches is you know I I plot mining team boys out of those program. You know in it and that you pick you plucked him out when there when they're killed when they've starts in this fall session. And they've been added a couple of times June gold watch and say okay where there's young is young guy that's really certainly get it. And we're gonna we're gonna ask him to join her nephew you guys is coaches travel with with your team's. You do outward word you've been all over the country area all over the US we Stacy said to when you guys walk India. One of these meets people know we are absolutely. They see that Swiss that Swiss cross. And it's known all over the us. Boy that's these are doing good work great here in west Alice Wisconsin right how many kids. I don't know if you can answer this is you've got so we classes through how many kids in a typical session. Around 500. In inside thirteen that's a lot right is that is that our good. It's a good number for the art like we have. A good sized gym not a huge gym because it's an Aldridge and but and we've remodeled it back in the early two thousands and it's it's really nice it's really beautiful gem. And is your room to expand if you needed to and are you landlocked. Yeah the wildly about the building next door to I don't know I think it's what we got as good you know bigger isn't always better. Mary smile at who is your jacket in this area who Hoosier chief competitor. We can't compete with no vocal area in terms of and the enrollment or teams are way yes. Well I'd you know. You cut it competing with all the clubs I don't generally I think that people will drive only so far. Opt to concede they don't time to drive like an hour for right NASA classical drive. Twenty some minutes on so that approach like if you if you look at all the clubs and a map that puts you. Like in in competition let's say me with club in Brookfield club down in. In non income Witten dollars thinks like that churches within the same driving area. You don't vote but because you know we're so well known we do have people drive all the way from the east side in mind that people drive from Kenosha. And we have some people on team that drive late forties we've had people on T drive over an hour just to be in a program. What they do that says a lot of all yes you know would those be the kids that are at a higher level TGT know if yeah here's what am I guess I'm getting that if I'm a parent and I see that my son. Has really taken in gymnastics. And now we're starting to compete now and seen that he's having some success that. I'm going to drive that our to have him be part of what I perceive as the best academy or clobber the Seles. Yeah those are really dedicated parents you know I Alice. House and take my hat off to the parents because they're just amazing. On the type of support and dedication they have for the kids yeah I mean. I want expectant parent to do that but obviously. If you ads a child that now we loved it but really had excessive talent. In and that some parents who do I mean we had. We've I've seen parent like in the girl's side delve a dubbed the mother and a daughter will move to another part of the country. To train with a particular coach and lived there are separate from the rest the family. You know to make to try to fulfill the girl's Olympic dream. When we had these Olympic girl that the World Cup they did when they're coming a triumph that and we had an in studio for this show. The with a one gal her sister was part of it and she went I think to UCL layer USC. Andy I Sid you feel like you're missing. Anything. And she said you know. I I I was I can go I'm ready to go to college whenever I want but in the last three months I was in Paris. And I was here and I was here. And she sits I would get a chance to see the world before going to college. Where a lot of people have to win toy after college or even later in life to we will see some of the things that that I'm able to see. Because of gymnastics. So there are some doors have opened for her and for other people including yourself on shore through gymnastics. That not a lot of people get a chance to do. Aria is fantastic opportunity to travel the world and and so we've had many agendas who either. You know had had a chance to the travel with our club or because they went to college we've sent a lot agendas the college I want to compete nots somewhat scholarships. And that's afforded them all kinds of opportunities. Very when you look back in Denham and asking the same question and you guys are really young. I'm younger than you and I think you. Coca. As did when you look back at Ed gymnastics as as you grew up minutes. What's the fondest memory for you so far indicating you're really young so you my nine head and then your finest memories still to come by. What you what you think about when you think of gymnastics. My native fondest gymnastics memory it is when. I won the state EIA. Was this static I a had been competing my two younger sisters were also competing in different levels. That same day and we all took home. Well gold medal. And it was. The best is the best memory happened Japan's. Don't even know gymnasts that's my favorite memory that that's good for you. Talk about parents being proud yes that'd be great right home. Oil was yeah. Ben how much you. And it's. A loaded question for me because. Gymnastics has been part of my life biggest part of my life since I can remember. You know through all the accolades and awards that I guys I would say. The coolest thing that I take out of and then I'll always remembers that. The foundation and I had built being gymnast I was able to travel the world as well. Not as it and elite gymnast but as a performer I was able to. Work as a stunt person and do several different shows around the world using my gymnastics weight. While what sounds okay you shed light TV shows or sorry with Disney do really Disney in 2003. And I worked for Disney and then branched out and did. Kind of freelance acrobatics for. Eight years can't. So look at this sport can take you a whole lot different directions can't salute and oh yeah you do less question to CC. When I have youth groups in here we do we talk about parents. He couldn't bad and I would assume that in in any sport. There are some parents that are trying to live their of their life through their third and their students or their athletes. Paris in the world of gymnastics you find to be for the most part really get. Yeah for the most part really get we have a lot of great and energy and there are some tough ones so I would assume occasionally yeah Casey get apparent that's a little too gung ho right down you know that's that's just happens they get excited about their child's six size and but you know we work with the parents and help them. Do the right thing for the case. That when I start that it they'll class summer for my mom. Affection and yell at you to get beat Cuba after protest cash crunch is kidding who is kept to a break you can Swiss Turner's gymnastics dot com. They are. Fall session 2007 team. You can register now and it's firm east three. I'm not walking. Walking on now we apparent attack classes like kids when they start walking and it's a great class at that really put and it's got to be cool for the parent. Right now I am. I what I brought my daughter I worked. For company Minneapolis or worked out of our home and it. Travel will be open on Tuesday morning's my wife is a nurse and I would take Katie to a mother daughter gymnastics class at the Y. They said Richard had a mom I said well I'm here so what's the lowest Houston and you know what the moms out because she needed her tapered change the moms there almost help mean we saw. It was really fun though. But it was just finding expert says oh absolutely KD Knight let's get to break this is a place farm fleet. Use sports show on sports Radio One 057 FM. The fans. And I and weeks. It's. News. Please harmlessly you sports show on sports pretty 1057 F from the fan. I'm Mike we get will talk and switch turns gymnastics academy. Again go to their website a lot of information. Swiss Turner's gymnastics that come couple things I didn't know. Birthday party speak for you guys and now that you explained it. Why pay kids love to come out a Paris about the get two to one trampoline they get there's a lot of stuff there. On tolls to birthday party fee for cricket. Oh absolutely they love it on the champ greens were a big hit this a carbon that pick them up and jump off did you. All kinds of different games and we and then dissident group really nice big room for the parents to have cake or presents whatever they wanted to do. The other part that I didn't realize was you guys I'll have open gyms and what I what I printed and that that was really cool is a preschool preschool open gym.
